Conservatory Fundamentals

Affordable.

We have worked hard to recruit strong faculty members, while keeping the tuition affordable for families.

Community.

We are not just a location where kids go to get lessons with a teacher. Bonham Conservatory creates a community for students, through Musicianship Classes, Chamber Music, Masterclasses, and other opportunities. Our music students will find themselves in community with other students who love music, as well as being able to hear from multiple voices in our wonderful school faculty.

Great Instruction.

This is the foundation upon which we can build all of the other good things we do at Bonham Conservatory.

Performances.

Students perform in at least two recitals a year at the Conservatory. In addition, students are encouraged to attend performances they are not personally participating in, to broaden their musical range of experience, and to build up the Conservatory community.

Masterclasses & Special Events.

From time to time, Bonham Conservatory will host masterclasses or other special events to give students the opportunity to learn from accomplished musicians from outside of their usual sphere. Professional musicians will often point to masterclass experiences as important moments in their personal musical journeys. Masterclasses are one of the special features a conservatory can offer, which build community within the music school, and motivate the students individually.

Musicianship Classes

Musicianship Classes: Music History, Harmony, Music Theory, Ear Training and Sight Singing

Bonham Conservatory offers several classes—for instrumentalists, vocalists, and all music lovers.

MUSIC HISTORY is an absolute delight—listen to the greatest music, hear the stories behind the pieces, and learn about the great thread of our grand musical tradition.  In HARMONY, learn the intervals that make music beautiful, how they fit together, and how harmonies and melodies progress to make beautiful music.  In MUSIC THEORY, students learn all of the other aspects of how music works, in addition to harmony—including time signatures, key signatures, musical forms, etc.  And in EAR TRAINING & SIGHT SINGING, students learn to hear intervals and sing from sight—this is an incredibly valuable class for vocalists and instrumentalists, as well as anyone who likes to sing in church, the shower, or anywhere else!

Bonham Conservatory’s Musicianship classes are a distinctive that set us apart.  Students attend weekly classes where they not only learn the basics of music theory, history, and artistry, but also enjoy community with other music-lovers!

Chamber Music Small Ensembles

Chamber Music/Small Ensembles

The opportunity to play music in the chamber music setting is a phenomenal chance to grow musically (and also have a great time)!

Chamber music is one of the most important—and beautiful—parts of the repertoire.  At Bonham Conservatory, we are very pleased to offer chamber music coaching from our experienced faculty, to intermediate through advanced students.

At the beginning of the school year, the faculty will work to place students into ensembles of similar ability.  Small ensembles meet for a one hour rehearsal each week, with one of our faculty members coaching the students for the entire rehearsal.  Near the end of each semester, the groups will perform in one of the conservatory recitals.

To sign up for a chamber music/small ensemble coaching class, either sign up through the regular Registration form and describe the student’s instrument and ability level in the comments box, or call us directly at 903.332.4257.  Chamber music/small ensembles will form at the beginning of the school year, so contact us over the summer to get on this list.

Group Lessons

Group Lessons

Group lessons are an affordable option for learning an instrument or voice.  Our group lesson classes are kept small (3–4 students), to ensure that every student is receiving the teacher’s attention.  (If a group of friends wish to form a larger class together, we may be willing to work with you to allow friends to study together, depending on the teacher’s wishes; contact us for special arrangements.)

A minimum of 3 students is necessary to form each group lessons class.  If you are interested in group lessons, contact us and we will put you on the waitlist for your instrument (and tell your friends, so we can get that class going for your instrument!).

Children

Children

Bonham Conservatory has excellent children’s music programs.

🧸 For young children, we offer the world-renowned Kindermusik program.

🎹 At age 5, piano lessons are a very good option for giving children a strong foundation in music.

🎶 If enough interest is expressed, we will offer tin whistle or recorder classes for agees 5–8, in which children can learn all of the basics of music through learning an easy-but-beautiful instrument with a lovely repertoire… yet is very inexpensive.  Contact us if you’d like to get your child on the list for this, and we’ll see if there’s enough interest to form a class for the current session.
